Further information on the grit size of sanding sheets:
The grit of a sanding sheet is responsible for how fine or coarse the structure of the sanding sheet is. The higher the grit number, the finer the sanding paper - because this number provides information about the number and size of the abrasive grains on the abrasive. As a rule, you work your way from coarser grit to finer grit, depending on the material and surface to be worked on.
Our recommendation by work step:
- 40 & 60 grit is used for pre-sanding work (especially on solid wood)
- 80 & 120 grit for intermediate sanding (e.g. for veneers or planed wooden surfaces)
- 180 grit for fine sanding (all wooden surfaces)
Pro tip:
Sanding should only be carried out in the direction of the natural grain of the wood to avoid scratches or unevenness.
